Ex-Kogi state governor cries out over plot to kill him
Former governor of Kogi state and All
Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain
cried out on Wednesday April 13, over
what he referred to as continuous
attempt to end his life by unknown
people.
Olafemi alleged that some people have
contracted assassins to attack him and
put an end to his life and he believed
his life is now in grave danger.
It was learnt that Olafemi said the
attempts on his life started after he
wrote an open letter to President
Muhammadu Buhari and Governor
Yahaya Bello earlier this year.
Olafemi said the last attempt on his life
was made on Tuesday, April 12 around
midnight when a woman believed to be
a contracted assassin was spotted
around his house, Vanguard reports.
Olafemi said the attempt on his life started after
he wrote an open letter alleging marginalisation
in Kogi state.
It was recalled that last month, Olafemi
wrote an open letter to President
Muhammadu Buhari alleging
marginalization of Okun people of Kogi
West Senatorial district in a recent
appointment made by the federal
government from the state.
Olafemi in his letter said the
appointments as favouring only one
section of the state to the detriment of
others, especially the Okun people.
In the letter he said: “Within one week,
four federal appointments were made by
the federal government and the entire
appointments were in one senatorial
area of the state - the Eastern Senatorial
Area where we already have two major
state appointments -the Deputy Governor
and the powerful ‘Chief of Staff’.
“Our Central Senatorial area has the two
ambassadorial slots for Kogi state in
addition to producing the governor with
nothing at all for the west senatorial
area and by extension the third largest
tribe - the Okuns.”
The spokesperson of Kogi state police
command, William Ayah, while
speaking to the press on Wednesday,
confirmed that the attempt on Olafemi's
life is true and that the suspect is in the
custody of Criminal Investigation
Department.
Meanwhile, in another news, Kogi state
Governor Yahaya Bello's convoy was
attacked on the evening of Wednesday,
April 12, while he was returning from
Ibaji, the hometown of the deputy
governor.
Bello was attacked in Idah town by
angry youths who demanded he pay the
outstanding allowances he is owing
workers in the state.
He however escaped unscathed as his
security officials took to sporadic
shooting of air to scare the angry
protesters away.
