The Oyo State government, on Friday, June 2, has announced the indefinite closure of the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo. According to the statement by state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Niyi Olowofela, the said decision followed violent protest by students of the institution over their welfare. Professor Niyi's statement directed students to vacate the school premises immediately, adding that law enforcement agents had been enjoined to secure lives and property of the college. In conclusion, the institution was said to remain shut until normalcy returned.

Yesterday, June 2, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, declared an indefinite strike. Prior to the directive that academic staff of the institution resume the strike suspended in February was contained in a statement signed by the staff union’s chairman, Dr Biodun Olaniran and secretary, Dr Toyin Abegunrin. According to the statement: “This is to inform our members that the National Executive Council (NEC) of our union has granted the branch the permission to resume the strike action that was earlier suspended in February with immediate effect. Further adding that: “This is an indefinite and comprehensive strike commencing immediately. The 36 state governors have resolved to offset the backlog of salaries and pension arrears they owed civil servants in the country as soon as the next tranche of payment from the Paris-London Club loan refunds are made. The Governors arrived at this decision  in Abuja at a meeting hosted by the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, at his Maitama residence. Following the statement by the Head, Media and Public Affairs of the NGF, Abulrazque Barkindo, the governors met in anticipation of the release of the other half of the Paris-London Club refund which has been approved for payment by Vice- President Yemi Osibanjo. The funds are expected to hit the states accounts within the period of a month. Report shows that, an angry housewife has chopped off her unfaithful husband's penis and then drank pesticide which resulted into her death. The deceased, Kawinnart Saezong, 33, was declared dead on Monday at a hospital in Phayao province. Narin Cherdyoo, a Phayao police officer reported. This awful incident happened in northern Thailand. The late wife chopped off her 38- year-old husband’s penis while he was asleep early Saturday, after she learned of his multiple infidelities, the police reported. Meanwhile, her husband, Niran Saewang, survived the attack. He was later transferred from Phayao to Lampang hospital, which is a three-hour drive, and had his penis reattached, one of the hospital staff said. The hospital were able to retrieve Niran’s penis and froze it with ice  according to Lampang hospital. Captain Maxwell Mahama, a Ghanaian military officer with the (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra was on Monday, May 29th, lynched by residents of Denkyira Boaso of the Central region. The said officer was mistaken to be an armed robber by the residents of Denkyira. Reports shows that, the officer was a commander of a military detachment in the area. Aisha expressed appreciation to the millions of Nigerians who have been praying for her husband’s quick and safe return to Nigeria. “Her Excellency will spend some time with her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari who is on a medical vacation,” she tweeted. A prominent figure of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rasaq Bello, popularly known as Hamburger in Lagos is dead. Hamburger was shot on Monday in the Shogunle area Lagos during the local council primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Report gathered showed that,  late Hamburger was shot by members of a rival gang led by Samson Agbetoye, popularly kmown as Golden. Golden belongs to the MC Olumo faction of the NURTW in lagos state. The Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, UI, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has today ordered all the undergraduate students of the institution to vacate the institution before 6pm today. The VC who responded to the protest staged today said, all the undergraduate students should leave the school's premises on or before 6pm today. In addition to this, he postponed the first semester exam slated to start tomorrow to Monday July 17, 2017. Meanwhile, he added that, the order does not affect the academic programme of the post graduate students saying that their lectures and other academic activities continues. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria's former president, has on Sunday, urged the youths in the country to embrace the "I can do Spirit". This can be achieved by developing all opportunities in making them better citizens, he added. Adding to this, he said there could be no meaningful transformation if government at all levels failed to include the youths in governance. Tragedy as Comrade Adefuwa Christopher, the president of the National Association of Science Students (NASS), Olabisi Onabanjo University, died yesterday, in a fatal accident along Ile-Ife road, Osun State. He was reported to be on his way back from Idanre Hills in Akure, Ondo State, after their excursion visit. Their bus was said to have collided with a trailer, leaving at least 21 other students injured. Few of his colleagues have therefore taken to their social media to pay tribune to him. Lanre Olowojobi, alias Pumpy, a 37-year-old armed robber the police described as notorious was arrested at Mushin, Lagos, at the weekend by operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce. Pumpy narrated how he and his gang members robbed and raped their female victims. Pumpy, whose gang members the police said have been raining terror on Mushin, also admitted in his statement that he killed many of his victims for refusing to let go of their valuables. The reported suspect was arrested at the weekend during a raid of some identified criminal hideouts in the Akala, Idi-Iro, and Fadeyi areas of the metropolis. The raid followed frequent complaints by members of the public about the activities of Pumpy and his gang members in the environment. A wicked woman, Mrs Promise Obinna, who is currently in the police cell was reported to have poured hot water on a little girl of 11 years, Chika Nkwazema by name. The shocking incident happened shortly after the victim's siblings and Mrs Obinna's children had finished a fight. Mrs Obinna reportedly went into her kitchen to carry a water on fire and poured it on the eleven year old who is currently in primary six. This awful incident occurred on the 20th of May, 2017 at a compound in Mbieri community in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state, where they both live as co tenants.
