A report by Nigerian Tribune claims that Senator Dino Melaye escaped an assassination attempt on his life early this morning, Saturday, April 15. According to the report, Senator Melaye was attacked in his residence at Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area of Kogi state. After the rain of bullet that lasted over one hour, two of the vehicles parked within the premises were damaged, while part of the building was also destroyed. Speaking to journalists after the incident, Melaye said the assailants came in some minutes after 12 midnight and started shooting indiscriminately into his building. It was gathered that 58-year-old Gbenga Benson Ogundele and his wife, 42-year-old Mojisola Oluwakemi Popoola, were recently arraigned and sentenced to a joint prison term of 252 months (21 years). The couple who live in Laurel, Maryland, were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering arising from a scheme to defraud unsuspecting victims. While Ogundele was also charged with aggravated identity theft and sentenced to 234 months (19.5 years) in jail, his wife Moji, was sentenced to 18 months, after which they'll both have 3 years of supervised release. Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi revealed that the money was paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church High level Makurdi Although the resident pastor of the church, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, initially denied knowledge of such offering, a copy of the church’s quarterly financial report, covering the months of January – March, confirmed the payment of N42million tithe to the church. The 21-year-old man apparently swallowed the object 11 years ago, and it miraculously never broke inside him.
