Leadership problems can be traced to youths absence in leadership position- UN Ambassador
"Most African countries had
failed to recognise youths as the “backbone
of development”, Dr. otive Igbuzor, a united Nations Ambassador, made this known in Lagos, yesterday, 1st of May.
He spoke at a youth empowerment
programme organised by the Leadership
Empowerment And Resources Network
(LEARN), Lagos.
He furthered in his speech by saying, NIGERIA and Africa are relegated to the
background because they fail to develop
their productive population in leadership and
capacity.
LEARN, was a program organised by the former lagos state first lady, Abimbola Fasola. The program was meant to empower youths in leadership.
Igbuzor laid a lot of emphasis on how youths are really lacking behind in the aspect of leadership.
He sees the phrase youths are the leaders of tomorrow as mere talk, because Nigeria is not doing anything to bring this into reality.
"Looking at Nigeria, we have leaders with the average age between 75 and 80, comparing this to any countries where we have ages between 45 and 50" Igbuzor added.
He further mentioned that, non-inclusion of youths in
the leadership of the country leads to development retard. Adding to this, he said problems Leadership is facing in the country can
be traced to youths’ absence in leadership
positions.
Youths should however be encouraged, trained, and allowed to embrace politics and what it entails.
