A lot of the features, that are heavily
advertised by the companies right now,
are not that important, as you won’t
even notice them with a naked eye.
Here are a few advices on what you
should really pay attention to and which
type of the TV will work the best for
you:
1. Size
If you want a full, immersive and
colorful experience, then the size does
matter. Of course, you need to take into
account how much space you have at
home and the distance from the TV to
your couch, but it would be the best to
get at least a 50-inch screen .
2. Resolution
Resolution is one of the most important
parameters for the screen, it defines the
number of pixels you’ll see, so the more,
the better. Of course, it isn’t enough to
define the quality of the image entirely,
the size of the pixel and the technique
used to make the TV work are important
too.
More recent TVs are equipped with a 4K
resolution , which is quite a lot, but right
now is not really practical. You won’t
see much difference between 4K and
FullHD (1080p) screens, unless you
watch content, made specially for 4K,
and right now there’s not a lot of it. But
technology continues to develops, so if
you’re willing to spend some more
money to be ready for the future, you
should definitely do it.
3. Technology
Most of the TV nowadays use LEDs
(Light Emitting Diodes) as their base.
LEDs light comes through LCD (Liquid
Crystal Display), which forms the image.
This technology is much better than
everything there was before, it has great
color rendition and is great at
rendering deep black.
More recent technology, OLED (Organic
LED), despite the similar name, has
completely different mechanism. Every
pixel of the OLED screen is a diode
(actually, 2 or 3 diodes), and the image
is formed by the matrix, that sends
signals to each of them. This technology
focuses on the quality of the image.
Most of the OLED TVs are made by LG
right now.
4. Additional features
4.1. 3D
3D television has been developing and
pushing forward for years by Sony , LG
and Samsung . This feature is not crucial
for your choice, because, as well as 4K
resolution, it works only with an
appropriate content, and there are
much less of it in this case. Furthermore,
manufacturers are slowly getting rid of
it, as it wasn’t popular enough to
continue supporting.
4.2. Smart TV
This feature makes your LG TV set an
Android device – there are apps, that
will help you to improve your watching
experience, you can even surf the net on
it and access Jiji App for shopping for
the best price. On the other hand, you
can make any TV smart with special
HDMI extension, so, although it is pretty
comfortable, it is not crucial either.
4.3. Form-factor
Most of the TVs, made in the last
decade, are flat, and with time they are
becoming more and more thin. Some of
the companies, like LG, are introducing
extremely flat screens , called “wallpaper
OLED”, which are only 4 mm thin!
Another form, that current TV sets
(especially from Samsung) are taking is
a curve. Whatever the company might
claim, this feature is purely aesthetic
and doesn’t really improve the quality
of the picture.
